Summit County Hiking Trails

As Colorado starts to warm up, the ski boots get put away and the hiking boots come out. The same rocky mountains that provide some of the best skiing, turn into some of the best hiking in the entire nation.

Challenge yourself and get all of your steps in for the day as you hike these trails. You’ll feel a major sense of accomplishment once you finish! All of the hiking trails in Summit County will be close to you when you stay in one of our Colorado vacation rentals.

The Best Hiking Trails in Summit County, Colorado

Listed below are some of the challenging and beautiful hiking trails in all of Summit County. Take in beautiful mountain and lake views along each hike, and enjoy some fresh mountain air!

QUANDARY

Begin this hike just eight miles south of downtown Breckenridge. With 3,500 feet of elevation game throughout this three-mile hike, you’ll definitely feel the burn! The final ascent to the end of the trail is worth it, as you overlook layers of jagged peaks jutting out in all directions.

MOHAWK LAKES

This trail is much easier than Quandary, so if you’re not looking for a challenge, the Mohawk Lakes trail is the right one for you. This 6.6-mile route begins a few miles south of downtown Breckenridge at the end of Spruce Creek Road. While you hike this trail, you’ll see a stunning waterfall and mining structures that date all the way back to the late 19th century. If you continue up the mountain, you’ll find Upper Mohawk Lake and see the view of the valley below.

UPPER CATARACT LAKE

If you really love hiking, the trails leading to Upper Cataract Lake are perfect for you. The 11-mile roundtrip hike is among one of the more difficult hikes in Summit county but is well worth it when you get to see gorgeous views of Cat Lake and Upper Cataract Lake.
